Downy or vellus hair on the face and body can be notoriously hard to treat. If you have ever struggled with facial hair, you will know that your options are limited. Treatments like laser and electrolysis don’t work on this finer hair, and treatments like Dermaplaning can upset the sensitive acid mantle of the skin. We are delighted to be able to offer you an alternative. For many years, DMK Alkaline Wash has been used as a painless method to remove facial hair, reducing the growth of fine downy hair whilst not compromising the skins barrier. Regular treatments reduce the regrowth and the need for treatments becomes less frequent.
Who is it for?
It is for anyone wishing to reduce the growth of vellus hair on the face or body. It will remove darker thicker terminal hair, but this will grow back as normal.
Who can’t have it?
We need to patch test you at least a week before we can commence treatment. This will help us determine if it’s suitable for you. We cannot treat if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and some medications and skin conditions can exclude you from treatment unfortunately, but please have a chat with us and we can answer any questions. We need a minimum of two weeks to treat before a special occasion or a holiday to a hot climate.
Is there any downtime?
Ideally no, which is why the patch test is so important, but so is homecare. There is a small collection of products that need to be used post treatment to help keep the skin in optimal health, but these will be discussed at your patch test.
How many treatments will I need?
As always it is so hard to tell. Everyone is different. We offer all areas as a course of 6 treatments – have a look at our passes by clicking here. After the 6 treatments we can assess and decide if further treatments are necessary.
How often do I need the treatments?
We can treat as regularly as every 7-10 days until there is a significant reduction in hair growth, then 10-14 days, but there is a degree of flexibility with this. As you will see, the treatment time is short.
How soon will I see results?
Results are immediate as hair is removed at the first session. As the treatments progress, hair regrowth lessens.
What else do I need to know?
The skin may be red in the few days post treatment and you may have some tightness but this is all usual. There may be an unusual rubbery feeling to the skin, but the homecare will help with any slight discomfort.
